In celebration of Nursing Appreciation Week, New York Methodist Hospital recently honored registered nurses, nurse technicians and unit secretaries at the 2007 Nurse of Distinction Award Ceremony. The annual celebration, held in the Hospital’s auditorium, honored twenty-nine employees for their exemplary service.

“Nurses are the foundation and the base for everything that is good at this Hospital and I want you to know that this institution truly appreciates all that you do,” said Stanley Sherbell, M.D., executive vice president for medical affairs at NYM, to attendees at the ceremony. “The honorees sitting before you reflect the very highest standards of care and are role models for the profession of nursing,” added Rebecca Flood, R.N., senior vice president for nursing.

Among those honored for going above and beyond the call of duty, was Claudia Tabet, A.A.S., R.N., recipient of the 2007 Nurse of Distinction Award. “Claudia optimizes what a nurse should be,” said Anthony Saleh, M.D., president of the Medical Board. “Her attention to detail, fierce drive to do the best and passion for helping others is exemplary,” he said.

A resident of Bay Ridge, Ms. Tabet has worked on the Hospital’s medical/surgical unit, respiratory care unit and most recently in the cardiac catheterization laboratories. “I have been very fortunate to call New York Methodist Hospital my home for the past nine years and throughout that time I have enjoyed utilizing my nursing skills and education to help patients,” said Ms. Tabet, who added that she was truly overwhelmed and honored to be chosen by her peers to receive the 2007 Nurse of Distinction.

The annual awards ceremony was one of the many highlights of Nursing Appreciation Week at NYM, a celebration for nurses that included a series of lectures, stress reduction workshops, games, raffles, a singing competition, and numerous feasts provided by the Department of Food and Nutrition Services.

A select group of NYM registered nurses, nurse technicians and unit secretaries were voted by their peers to receive awards at the Nurse of Distinction Award Ceremony.
