Eastern Long Island Hospital Nurse Named One Of Five "Nurses Of Distinction" In Metro NY

Paula Ohlmann, RN of Southold has been named “Preceptor of Distinction” for the New York Metro area. Awarded by Healthcare Workers Union 1199SEIU, Paula has been recognized by her peers and the hospital administration for doing an outstanding job in training new nurses on the Medical Surgical Unit at Eastern Long Island Hospital. She takes great pride in helping each nurse hone their skills to reach their full potential as a nursing professional.
Paula’s nursing career spans five years, and is actually her second career. Prior to nursing, Paula worked in a physician’s practice as an office manager. She came to ELIH in May 2002 as a Registered Nurse after obtaining her degree from Suffolk County Community College.

The 1199SEIU Preceptor Award is given to a nurse who has excelled at mentoring nurses entering the profession. Paula was one of 67 nominees for 5 awards. Representing more than 275,000 members and retirees in New York, Maryland, the District of Columbia and Massachusetts, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East is the largest Local union in the world. Their mission is to achieve affordable, high quality healthcare for all.
