Rosanne Raso, Vice President for Nursing Services, Lutheran Medical Center
Rosanne Raso is the Senior Vice President for Nursing Services at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, a Level I Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital. With more than 30 years devoted to the field of nursing, Rosanne is dedicated to improving the practice environment for staff, enhancing patient safety and helping to build awareness throughout the country for nursing careers.
 She is a proud co-founder and co-president of the Brooklyn Nursing Partnership, a collaboration of education and practice leaders focused on increasing nursing capacity in Brooklyn.
In 1976 she graduated from Staten Island Community College and began her
nursing career as a critical care nurse. She earned her bachelor of science degree in 1981 from the State University of New York at Albany, and her master's degree in nursing from Wagner College in Staten Island in 1985.
Since then she has enjoyed many clinical and administrative leadership roles in critical care. Before becoming the chief nursing officer at Lutheran Medical Center, she was the CNO in community hospitals in New York and New Jersey.
She is active member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Nursing Management, the Journal of Excellence in Nursing Leadership. In addition to authoring a regular column in the journal, she is a member of the Planning Panel for the journal’s national conference.
She is a regular contributor to Nursing Spectrum and Advance for Nurses magazines and is a past president of the New York Organization of Nurse Executives, the New York City Chapter AACN and the Greater New York Chapter of NYONE. She was recently elected to the nominating committee of the American Organization of Nurse Executives.
With her extensive experience in nursing and nurse leadership, she has lectured throughout New York City and the country on critical topics in nursing.
Throughout her career she has received numerous awards and recognitions. Some of them include the NYONE Recognition Award from the New York Organization of Nurse Executives, the NYS Nurse of Distinction Award at The New York Hospital, and Lifetime Membership from the New York City Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Rosanne and her husband of 20 years, Donald DeRosa, live on Staten Island. They have an 11-year-old son, Donald DeRosa, whom she says is her greatest accomplishment.
