Creedmoor Psychiatric Center
The Creedmoor campus has more than fifty (50) buildings and spans 300+ acres. There are twenty (20) co-located community agencies, several of which are residential in nature and available to inpatients at the time of discharge. A number of New York State agencies, including the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Development Disabilities and New York State Alcohol Treatment Center are present on the campus. Creedmoor provides a continuum of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric and related services with a 470 bed inpatient service and five outpatient sites in commercial buildings scattered throughout the borough.
Inpatient Services are located in a seventeen story, renovated building, and offer a variety of treatment options. Inpatient treatment at Creedmoor is reserved for those whose illness has become so severe that they are unable to function in the community. The focus of treatment is rapid recovery with symptom reduction, access to programs which develop skills to manage psychiatric illness, active discharge planning and support for consumers in returning to community living. Treatment is provided by multi-disciplinary teams of professional and para-professional staff. On -ward treatment spaces are pleasant, air conditioned and designed to be calming and restful. Off ward programs and recreational space are available and share the same thoughtful design principles.
Treatment locations for inpatients include:
- 19 inpatient wards - 470 beds
- 2 admissions wards
- 17 intermediate and extended care wards
- In addition to on-ward treatment, Creedmoor offers a variety of off-ward locations for treatment, recreation and programming.
- There are two treatment malls offering a variety of treatment and specialty rehabilitation programs such as such as apartment living, computer skills, sheltered workshop, adult education, self help opportunities and competitive employment skills. The malls include a beauty shop and exercise room.
- There is a consumer run café called Big Nosh. A Dome adjacent to the inpatient building provides a large space for activities.
