Coney Island Hospital continues to reach out to its ethnically rich community in new and innovative ways. Our Community Wellness 2000 initiative joins with community-based organizations and health care coalitions in "wellness partnerships" to assess and improve the health status of southern Brooklyn. It is our goal to provide shorefront residents with a lifetime of world-class care through preventive, integrated health care.
 Providing clinically excellent and culturally competent health services is the hospital's strength. Coney Island Hospital is proud of its centers of excellence, which include Adolescent Medicine, Urology, Cardiology and Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
Women's Health services have expanded to include a multi-disciplinary, comprehensive Osteoporosis Program that emphasizes prevention, DEXA-scan diagnosis and treatment. The Breast Health Center has dramatically improved the care given to women with breast diseases through the use of the latest stereotactic mammography and sonography equipment. The Center stresses team consultations of physicians and individual patients, and has been recognized for its use of breast-sparing lumpectomy as the desired procedure. The OB/GYN Department looks forward to the opening of its new Birthing Center with modern labor and delivery birthing rooms.
The recently-formed community-based network, "Partners In Private Practice," has grown to six medical offices that provide both primary care and specialty services specifically designed to serve the Russian, Pakistani and Chinese communities. The Ida G. Israel Community Health Center and the three Child Health Centers provide access to quality pediatric and adolescent medicine throughout the community.
