Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center

Bronx-Lebanon is the largest voluntary, not-for-profit health care system serving the South and Central Bronx, with 858 beds at two major hospital divisions (the Concourse and Fulton); a nursing facility for AIDS and geriatrics patients; and an extensive “BronxCare” network of 70 medical practices that has reinforced Bronx-Lebanon's essential role as “Doctor to the Community.” In 2004, the hospital provided more than 879,000 outpatient visits, the fourth largest for a hospital in New York City.

Bronx-Lebanon is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, ranking in the top one percent of hospitals in the nation. In 2003, the hospital provided more than 840,000 emergency and ambulatory care visits, enabling it to retain the distinction as one of the largest voluntary hospital emergency services and outpatient providers in New York State. It is in the Bronx community where we see the importance of fulfilling the hospital’s mission of open arms, to heal, to teach, to care.

Bronx-Lebanon regularly provides free check-ups and screenings at schools, shelters, nursing homes, senior citizen centers, churches, and many other organizations. Numerous outreach programs have also been initiated to educate the community about important health issues, including HealthBeat, Bronx-Lebanon’s widely acclaimed weekly live television show, which offers viewers the opportunity to have their questions answered by medical experts.

Bronx-Lebanon’s mobile health units are also bringing physicians and medical services directly to where they are most needed. Its school-based health programs are promoting health education and prevention as well as achieving positive outcomes for local students.
