Metropolitan Nurse

New York Institute of Technology

The goals of the department of nursing mirror, complement and enhance those of the college. The organizing framework of the nursing curriculum is founded on transcultural nursing care and general systems theory. It recognizes that clients are individuals whose culture may differ in significant ways from the cultural premises of the caregivers.

Within the context of implementing nursing care interventions, the various roles of the nurse include the mediation of conflicting goals and expectations developing from these cultural disparities. This mediation may involve the accommodation of western cultures’ approaches to the health care assumptions of the patient and patient’s family without compromising its beneficial consequences. Conversely, it may also include the acculturation of the patient and the patient’s family in regard to the practices of western health care systems.

Our faculty consists of highly experienced professionals who have vast clinical and leadership experience. They are committed to teaching and advising nursing students so that they will enhance the profession of nursing when they graduate. Faculty work with each student individually to enhance their success in the program.
