Mount Saint Mary College
Mount Saint Mary College builds its nursing programs on the concept that nurses are key health care practitioners because nurses are the professionals with the most comprehensive knowledge of the patient. Therefore, the Mount's nursing programs are designed to develop the broad knowledge base needed by professional nurses in a rapidly changing health care system. The need for nurses with bachelor's degrees will increase as our health care system continues to become more complex. The role of nurses with bachelor's degrees is also becoming more complex. These nurses will be central players in designing, managing, coordinating and providing patient care across settings.
The bachelor of science degree requires 120 credits. Nursing courses build upon a liberal arts foundation and courses in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pathophysiology, chemistry, psychology, sociology, computer science, medical ethics and statistics.
To meet the needs of our diverse student population, the Mount offers students three options for earning the bachelor's degree :
Traditional Option
Our traditional option is designed for the traditional age college student. This four-year program offers courses during the fall and spring semesters. Students may also opt to take summer or January Interim courses.
Adult Accelerated Option
Our adult accelerated option, offered in cooperation with the Office of Continuing Education, is designed to accommodate the needs of adults who may have daytime jobs and family commitments. The accelerated option offers classes during eight mini semesters of six weeks each. Students typically attend class two evenings per week for each course. Nursing students have Saturday clinical experiences. Students may take two courses during each accelerated session. Credits earned at other colleges and universities may be applied toward nursing program requirements in accordance with MSMC policies. The length of the program varies according to the number of transfer credits applied toward the degree.
RN Fast Track
The RN Fast Track is designed for the registered nurse graduate of an associate degree or hospital diploma program. Selected credits earned at other colleges and universities may be applied toward nursing program requirements in accordance with MSMC policies. RN students may accelerate their program by taking proficiency exams in most clinical nursing courses as well as other selected courses and by taking other program requirements in the adult accelerated program. Students may earn a bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in the Fast Track.
