Take the challenge! Become part of the proud tradition established in 1956 by the Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing, graduating over 1,500 nurses.

The Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing is registered by the New York State Education Department, and is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). As one of only three hospital-based practical nursing programs in the entire state of New York, students are assured that the education and clinical training they receive is first-rate. One strength of our program is that students earn college credit as well as gain invaluable clinical experience. All our instructors have Bachelor of Science degrees, are pursuing Master of Science degrees in Nursing, and have many years of nursing experience in various settings.

In addition to classroom instruction, our students are given over 600 hours of clinical experiences including Acute Care at Geneva General Hospital and obstetrical and newborn care at the Family Birth Center. Observational experiences may also be conducted in Surgical Services, Diagnostics, the Dialysis Center, and the Child Care Center. There is also a rotation in home health care.

We offer a one-year program with 20 college credits for less than a $7,000 investment. Ninety percent of students receive some type of financial aid with 1:1 counseling from a financial aid advisor. The licensed practical nurse salary range in this region is $19,000-$30,400 per year.

Students earn 20 college credits in courses such as Anatomy & Physiology, English and Psychology at Finger Lakes Community College. We also accept transfer credits. These courses prepare students for a challenging career ahead. Because of our college level curriculum, our graduates can continue their education to become RNs. Marion S. Whelan graduates who complete the Registered Nurse Programs have a 90-100% passing rate on the RN licensing exam.
